This is the 4th book in the Signs of the Zodiac series by Vicki Pettersson. It was my least favorite book in the series so far. Joanna is confused and is running around not accomplishing a whole lot for most of the book.
Joanna broke her changeling in the last book and because of that the Manuals of Light can’t be written and the Light agents have lost all their safe zones. Needless to say the Agents of Light are in serious trouble. Warren tells Joanna that she better fix it ASAP and hints that Joanna will find her answers in Midland and that she should find the new tulpa (her doppelganger from the last book).
First for the good stuff. It was cool to learn more about Midland. It was also nice to have the doppelganger involved more. A lot of the plot elements relating to how the changelings affect the Agents’ powers were really interesting.
Joanna screws up a lot in this book. Those who thought she was changing as a character in the third book will be disappointed. Even worse is the fact that many of the Agents of Light are not what they appear to be. By the end of the book I felt like there were no Agents of Light. I thought many of the characters acted very out of character; there weren’t really any characters that I liked by the end of the book. The deal with Joanna and Hunter was kind of whacked; I can’t say more without revealing spoilers. Also I thought it was odd how Joanna is trying to convincingly play Olivia’s lifestyle in the beginning of the book but then she (kind of) forgets about being Olivia. There were some small parts where she has to “act like” Olivia; but there aren’t really any repercussions for her walking out on the bachelorette party in the beginning or of her doing any other un-Olivia actions. There is one spoiler I need to address cause it irritated the heck out of me so…

What was with the amount of time spent on Joanna losing pieces of her soul and powers? It seemed like it was going to play a really important part in the story; like getting her powers back was going to be a major plot point. Then at the end of the book she looses all of her powers. Well then what was the point of angsting over some small power loss. The only thing I can think of is that now she can go and get the lost power back or something like that. The way the book ended really made me wonder if this is the last book in the series.
Okay, I need to comment about Hunter and Warren too. Hunter was such a sincere character, what was the point of having him do a complete 180? Also what was the point of Warren aiding this whole twisted set-up?

So overall I though the book was okay. Some of the plot line was interesting and the plot definitely twists and turns enough to keep your mind engaged (or at times just plan confused). The characters don’t really act like themselves and the bizarre end to the book leaves you wondering if there will be anymore books in the series. Kind of a disappointing book but still kept my interest.
I started this series loving the concept and the writing. I read through three of the four books, feeling sorry for Joanna/Olivia, but because she’s so kick ass, has awesome powers, and possibly a new relationship with Hunter, I was feeling good about reading the fourth. Is this the final in the series? It seems so, since by the end of this extremely disappointing fourth book, Joanna has lost 2/3 of her soul, several of her more important powers (like the ability to regenerate) and Hunter, who turns out to be nothing he was supposed to. Oh, and she is no longer a super hero. Also, Warren and the rest of her troup has completely used her and forsaken her. I swear, the ending to this book is the equivalent of an author writing that the whole thing was a dream and none of it happened.
I really enjoyed this series, but I find myself so angry at how the author ended this, that if there are more books to this series, I think I’m not going to read them. I gave this book two stars only because I thought it was pretty good right up until the end.
I’ve read this series from the start, and after a promising start instead of getting better the series became disappointing for me at book 3. I read book 4 in hopes that VP would turn it around, but she failed.
Three-fourths of the way through the book I stopped trying to figure out what was going on with the characters, and started wondering what was going on with the author. Is VP done with this series, or was this some transitional book where the author focused too much on setting up story threads for future books while sacrificing the coherence and quality of the current book? Not only was the book frustrating and confusing it was truly depressing.

If you enjoy reading about a heroine that is made to bumble and fumble through a confusing story line for the majority of the book only to be rewarded by a climax where she learns how horribly she has been used, betrayed, and denied by her fellow agents then this is the book for you.

I really enjoyed San Antonio when I was younger. It warms up nice in late February, but by May it's usually to hot.
I'd say NYC, if nothing else the streets in Manhattan are really easy to learn. And there's always need for taxis there.

Yes, keep the bags in your pocket before use. Carry the full bag with you until you reach a garbage can or return home. A lot of cities have parks where dogs can go "off leash" or parks where they must be leashed. Get in the car and drive to such a park. Bring plenty of bags though, and some treats would be nice.

This is the fundamental cause of Life… if these Atmans (Souls) had remained pure all the time… the need for Life in whole of the cosmos would not have arisen.
These Atmans (Souls) in their cosmic journey now need a body so that they can purify themselves and come back to their original pristine form. These Atmans (Souls) do not have the power to purify themselves without the aid of any external body. They need a body to work out its Karma and in the process the dross within the Atman soul shall get removed.
Let me explain this further but before that I need to explain the definition of God.
At the time of pralaya as we call it in Hinduism (the time of complete dissolution of the cosmos)… the total cosmos which consists of many universes dissolves back into its original pristine form… this is the form we know as God, the Almighty Creator! The size of the whole cosmos at this moment of time is half the size of a thumb, which is nothing else, but the collection of all purified Atmans (Souls) in the cosmos.
For purifying themselves why do the Atmans (Souls) need a body? This feature can be explained further by the example of mining.
If I need to extract one KG of pure gold (say an individual purified Atman in its pristine pure form) from a lump of hundred KG of gold ore then I need to pass the lump of hundred KG of gold ore through the requisite mining process. It is absolutely clear that this one KG of pure gold can not on its own separate itself out from the hundred KG of gold ore without the help of an external medium… it needs requisite machinery to remove the 99 KG of dross within the ore.
Similarly, the unpurified Atman the soul within cannot on its own remove the dross within… it needs an external medium… a body in order to come back to its original pristine form. And in the process… this so-called impure Atman is required to manifest a body, which consists of a long chain of manifestations… a total of 8.4 Million manifestations and a Life cycle of 96.4 Million earthly years… a long journey indeed!
In Hinduism… the total Life cycle in the Life of an Atman the soul within which consists of 8.4 Million manifestations and a total journey of 96.4 Million years is well-defined in the glory of the Bhagavad Gita… the one and only sacred Bhagavad Gita… the doctrine preached by Lord Krishna (an Avatar). Lord Krishna descended on Mother Earth above 3500 years ago… about 1500 years before the advent of Jesus Christ on Mother Earth.
Bhagavad Gita… the Song Supreme… is music to the ears! It spells out in total clarity about the meaning of Life… the core of Life itself in its entirety. It defines the relationship between various forms of Life… the relationship of a Human Being with single cell formation, multi-cell formation, insect Life, plant Life and finally the form of an animal before evolving into the form of a Human Being… the highest stage of manifest Life in the system of God, the Almighty Creator.
